Members bring along their kids for an afternoon get together in February to enjoy hot chocolate while putting together Valentine's Day cards and goodie bags for the children at Hephzibah.
Every month members get together to prepare, and deliver brown bag lunches to the PADS shelter.
Along with a donation of food gift cards each holiday season, OPWG members purchase, wrap, and help deliver gifts to be distributed to low income families and seniors living in our community.
Through a partnership with the Lake Theatre the community is invited to attend a family friendly morning that includes screening of a popular children's movie, drawings for fun prizes, and more. All proceeds from the event benefit a selected community member in need. Since its inception in 2009, collectively OPWG has raised more than $36,000 for local families.
OPWG organizes a community wide collection of gently used books to be donated to several of our charity partners including Children's Clinic, New Moms, the Oak Park River Forest Food Pantry, Opportunity Knocks, and PCC Wellness.
OPWG provides essential baby and new mom items for teen and single mothers through New Moms (formerly Parenthesis). Baby carriers are purchased and donated to The Children's Clinic. Heat packs are purchased and donated to the Birth Center at PCC Wellness for laboring moms.
OPWG members join the "Warriors" at OK for interactive activities such as shopping for and preparing lunch, assisting in the garden, and "Fun Runs".
Our yearly "Pennies for the Pantry" Drive encourages members to involve their children as we collect and save pennies all year long to raise funds for the OPRF Food Pantry. We also provide "Birthday Bags" that include a cake pan, supplies to make a cake, a banner, and handmade birthday card.
Members put together Mother's Day gifts for teen and single moms in our community. Parenthesis also is a beneficiary of our book and baby drives.
OPWG purchased furniture, hung pictures, and helped create a welcoming space for the Pro Bono Network in their new office.
OPWG organizes and hosts an appreciation event for the lawyers and volunteers who donate their time and services to Pro Bono Network.
OPWG members and their families collect pop tabs to help support and raise awareness for RMH - Loyola. We also provide "Totes for Teens", which include fun items for the older kids that visit the house.
Baskets filled with snacks as well as information on domestic violence are created and delivered to the local hospital ERs in order to promote awareness and resources for Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
